AUTHOR | MUSICIAN | COMPOSER
Karlo Ilić performs primarily in jazz and ethno ensembles as a multi-instrumentalist (guitar,
double bass, oud...), collaborating with many award-winning musicians such as Denis Razumović
Razz, Roberto Magris, Vedran Ružić, Rajko Ergić, Dorian Cuculić, Lovro Mirth, Pato Nuño,
and others. In addition to concerts and smaller performances, he organises and produces his
own music programme in Rijeka (e.g. the concert series “Jazz By The Book”), and composes
and arranges original music, as well as music for film, theatre, commercials, and video games.
He has performed at numerous jazz festivals and on many other stages — for example, with a
Macedonian brass orchestra at the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall for the celebration of World
Roma Day. He translated and edited the book Autophysiopsychic Writings, arranged and
performed a concert of Yusef Lateef's original music with his own quintet, and ultimately
participated in the centenary celebration of Lateef's birth (Yusef Lateef – A Centenary
Celebration) at the invitation of the Fine Arts Center at the University of Massachusetts, USA
(UMass Amherst Fine Arts Center). His interests encompass jazz and improvised music in
general, traditional music from around the world, experimental and “extreme” music, sound
design, and more.
