ABOUT
Karlo Ilić (b. 1990) is a musician and author who performs primarily in jazz and ethno ensembles as a multi-instrumentalist (guitar, double bass & oud), and collaborates with many award-winning musicians, including Denis Razz, Roberto Magris, Vedran Ružić, Rajko Ergić, Lovro Mirth, Mak Murtić, Charlie Jurković, Pato Nuño, and others. In addition to concerts and other performances, he composes and arranges original music for various media, and organizes and produces music programs, such as the concert series “Jazz By The Book” in Rijeka. He has performed at many jazz festivals and on numerous other stages, ranging from diverse and multidisciplinary artistic events to collaborations with cultural-artistic associations and Ismet Mustafov’s Macedonian brass orchestra. After translating and editing the book Autofiziopsihički spisi, he arranged and performed a concert of Yusef Lateef’s original music with his own quintet, and later took part in the centenary celebration of Lateef’s birth, Yusef Lateef: A Centenary Celebration, at the invitation of the UMass Amherst Fine Arts Center at the University of Massachusetts, USA. His interests include jazz and improvised music, traditional music from various parts of the world, experimental and “extreme” music, sound design, and the phenomenology of sound in general.
